The Port Moody Festival of the Arts to honour the local Iranian community at Expressions of Iran
PORT MOODY, BC – Expressions of Iran at the 14th Annual Port Moody Festival of the Arts will celebrate the unique cultural traditions of Iran.
With visual arts, crafts, literature, music, dance, and cuisine, the event will honour the local Iranian community of the Lower Mainland.
Expressions of Iran will explore a wide array of traditions from Persia. Outside of the theatre,
Event-goers can discover intricate Iranian crafts, art by Parisa Shafazard and Ali Rostami, and elaborate Iranian carpets. For a true taste of the area, Pasta Polo will be providing authentic Iranian cuisine for all to enjoy.
For the entertainment segment of the evening, the theatre will feature a historical film outlining Iran’s development from 500 BC to the 13th century. Then, the Almaas dance group will perform a traditional folk dance which is true to Iranian culture. Following the dance performance, Sheri Ismailzai will present a contemporary literature reading of Be Careful by Abdolqadir Balouch, while the Honary Group will play traditional Iranian music for the grand finale.
Fred Soofi, owner of Pasta Polo, states “I am pleased to join the Arts Centre as a Festival Patron for the Iranian event. This evening will be for everyone, the entire community, and we are looking forward to showing the importance and history of Iranian culture. There will be something for all.”
